You’ve got your friends – boys and girls… You know your crew and the people you hang with… Then you’ve got your family, the people you expect to always be there for you, no matter what. Even though you may not always get along with these people, you think that when a storm comes in your life and worst come to worst, they are going to be there for you. Like they always say, “I got your back.†So, have your reliances, your allies, your friends and your family.
But here comes that storm I was talking about. It begins small. Slowly, it creeps its way into your life. Little by little, your reliances fall away. Your allies grow strangely silent. You get into it with your friends and it results in your not speaking to each other any more. Then it seems lately that you and your brother (or sister,) are always arguing. The barriers you thought you had around you, your so-called friends and family, disappear; they fade out. You feel insecure and unstable when the storm strikes – and it hits hard! The storm knocks out anybody that was left…
You’re pregnant, you drop out of school, you get kicked out of your home… maybe all three! Here’s another scenario… You hang around with the wrong crowd and get yourself in trouble with the law, or you get expelled from school. Now there’s nobody left – no one to run to and nowhere to hide. You’re all alone – so you think…
There is one factor – one very, very important person you may have forgotten about – Our Lord and Savior, God Almighty, Jesus Christ. “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly; and there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother.†(Proverbs 18:24) That Friend is Jesus, the greatest Friend, who will never leave you nor forsake you.
When everyone else turns their back on you and leaves, God won’t – because come what may, no matter how many times you let Him down, He’s there for you. No matter how bad a situation gets, when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, God will always have your back.
